ADDIS ABABA —THE ETHIOPIAN HERALD Newspaper 6 May 2016: Over 500 youths donated blood yesterday in connection with the 75th Patriots Victory Day and the 18th anniversary of the Addis Ababa Youth Association.

At the event, Association President Ermias Mathiwos said that over 500 youths drawn from all sub-cities donated blood on the occasion of remembering their forefathers who sacrifice their lives to safeguard the country from fascist Italy and to celebrate 18th anniversary of the Association.
The President said that members of the Association have been engaged in various socio-economic development activities. Considerable number of youth have been engaged in numerous voluntary activities including blood donation.


He said the Association would work to enhance the participation of the youth in such activities with a view to carrying out own citizenship responsibilities.
Ethiopian National Blood Transfusion Service Representative Abraham Zeleke on his part said that members of the Association carried out an exemplary task in donating blood, a precious gift, that saves many lives.


Abraham said that many people pass away because of lack of blood. Considerable number of patients have lied down in hospital beds for long because of lack of blood. Currently, the blood bank urgently needs over 900, 000 units.  According to him, donating blood would boost donors mental satisfaction and enables to lead a healthy life.


From Addis Ababa Sport and Youth Affairs Bureau Youth Affairs Consultant Nejiba Akmel on her part noted the youth should strengthen similar humanness activities as it makes tremendous contribution to the overall national development.
