Bureau to offer free public transport service for teachers ================ ==============
ADDIS ABABA — THE ETHIOPIAN HERALD Newspaper 6 May 2016: The Addis Ababa City Administration Education Bureau said it has set ways to provide more public transport opportunities for teachers, directors, supervisors and TVET trainers.
The Bureau has signed an agreement with the Addis Ababa City Administration Transport Authority and made official that the Anbessa City Bus and Public Servant Transport Services Enterprise shall be delivered for free since May 9, 2016.
Social Sector Cluster Coordinator with a Rank of Deputy Mayor and Addis Ababa City Administration Education Bureau Head Delamo Otore said that the agreement is vital to ease the challenges faced by teachers due to lack of transportation.
Identity card is ready for distribution, he said and, added electronic identity cards will be prepared in the near future.
City Transport Authority Head Yabibal Addis on his part said that study was carried out by the City Transport Authority, Roads Authority and Education Bureau before launching the service.
The public transport is also set to fill the gap of transportation service for teachers working on Saturdays and evenings, he added.
The City Administration has allocated over 40 million Birr to deliver the service for 20,000 teachers.
It was noted on the occasion that the government is working to put in place various benefit packages for teachers in the country.
