The two sides discussed issues of mutual interest and on ways to further enhance their growing bilateral and regional cooperation.
Dr. Tedros recalled their meeting during the 26th African Union Summit and noted the importance of having continuous engagement to strengthen bilateral relations.
He stressed the importance of having stronger trade and investment ties in order to forge a strong strategic partnership between Ethiopia and Denmark.
He suggested the Government of Denmark should encourage Danish private enterprise to invest in Ethiopia in wide range of sectors including manufacturing and agriculture.
Highlighting Ethiopia’s huge potential in agriculture, Dr. Tedros also noted that Ethiopia would benefit substantially from a robust partnership with Denmark’s in agriculture and agro-processing.
He said Denmark’s highly competitive agricultural sector could support Ethiopia’s efforts to transform its largely underdeveloped agriculture and agro-processing sectors.
Dr. Tedros also briefed Mr. Jensen on the current political and security situation within the region.
He underlined the need for greater engagement to encourage the parties to South Sudan to fully implement the peace agreement in order to build on the gains made in recent weeks.
He said Somalia’s situation was encouraging as it moved towards elections late in the year. He particularly welcomed the agreement over election modalities as a significant step towards holding the election within the agreed timeframe.
The Danish Foreign Minister welcomed the possibility of links on agriculture and agreed to host a meeting between the agriculture ministers and to work on a memorandum of understanding to outline areas for cooperation.
He also indicated that Ethiopia could benefit from the Danish Agro-Processing Fund which funds bankable agricultural projects in developing countries.
Speaking of the Horn of Africa, the Danish Minister noted Denmark’s interest to work with Ethiopia to support the region in which several countries were fragile states. The Minister also thanked Dr. Tedros for attending the 4th Women Deliver International Conference.
