Ethiopian scholars have called for the government to strengthen efforts of accessing quality education to all citizens in line with the remarkable expansion of education across the country. The scholars made the remark yesterday at a panel discussion organized in connection with the ongoing sliver jubilee celebration of May 28.
After hearing report on the overall achievements in all sectors together with the challenges encountered in the past 25 years, the scholars underlined increasing enrollment and ensuring quality of education as the two sides of same coin. They added: “From now on the government’s focal point should be improving the quality of the education while making teaching a more appealing job .”
Noting that lack of good governance and rent-seeking are development bottlenecks, they called on the government to give sound and urgent solutions by identifying the root causes of maladministration, nepotism and embezzlement in the country.
Policy Research Advisor to the Prime Minister with a ministerial portfolio Dr. Kasu Yilala on the occasion told the scholars that Ethiopia has been experiencing the fastest economic growth in its entire history for the last two decades due to its developmental democratic state structure.
According to Dr. Kasu, the observance of self-administration up to succession in the country has brought unity in diversity and sustainable development as well as peace.
As to creating wealth and ensuring social justice, he said, based on developmental democracy, the government has done everything in its power to implement its free market policy during the past 25years.
