Fire at Qilinto prison kills 23 =========== =========

Twenty-three people have died after fire at the prison called Qilinto, in Aqaqi, on the outskirts of Addis Ababa, the Government Communications Affairs Office (GCAO) said.

GCAO said in a statement that 21 of the departed died of suffocation, whereas the remaining two, while trying to escape.

According to the Office, seven people including police officers sustained injuries from the fire.

The fire that broke out around 8:30am local time Saturday and lasted about eight hours ruined two blocks of the prison
