The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia and the Department of Foreign Affairs of Philippines agreed to establish bilateral consultation mechanism to promote mutual understanding and cooperation and to develop and further enhance the friendly relations between the two countries.

The two parties signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which aims to exchange views on bilateral and international affairs of mutual interest and advance common agendas between Ethiopia and the Philippines.

The signing ceremony took place on October 12, 2016 while Dr. Tedros Adhanom, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, was visiting the Philippines.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom visited the Philippines to attend the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for the Western Pacific (WPRO) meeting as a candidate for Director-General of the WHO.

In addition to the MoU signing Ceremony, Dr. Tedros had a bilateral meeting with Perfecto R. Yasa, Jr., Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines.

The two ministers discussed how to further develop the relationship of the two countries for mutual benefits.
