Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn says Ethiopia primarily emulates China’s manufacturing practices in its national development endeavor.
The Premier made the remark during the Ethio-Fujian investment cooperation forum held on Thursday in Fujian, China. Fujian Province is the 10th largest economy in China.
By the end of last March, eight Fujian-based enterprises have injected investments worth $9 million into the Ethiopian economy.
Prime Minister Hailemariam told the forum that Ethiopia prioritizes China as a model for high quality manufacturing.
He urged Fujian-based companies to set up a special economic zone in Ethiopia, pledging to support them in their investments.
“Prominent companies that contributed share to China’s economic transformation are now operating in Ethiopia,” says Zadig Abrha, State Minister for Government Communication Affairs Office, who accompanied Premier Hailemariam to China.
“Our country is in a massive economic transformation. Besides encouraging local investors, we need to attract more foreign direct investment including from China. We expect more to come,” Zadig remarked.
Having conferred with Prime Minister Hailemariam at the forum, Fujian Province officials agreed to further the existing investment cooperation with Ethiopia.
