Slovakia has confirmed its support to the candidacy of Dr. Tedros Adhanom for the post of Director-General of the World Health Organization, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Dr. Tedros has succeeded in reducing infant and maternal mortality, malaria, among others, during his tenure as Minister of Health.
His achievement as Minister of Foreign Affairs was also crucial, the press release of the Ministry said.
If elected, the candidate will seek to solve the complex and difficult health condition of the world, it added.
Member states will elect a new Director-General in Geneva, Switzerland, on May 23, 2017.
Dr. Tedros has the support of African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States.
