Ethiopia, Sweden Conclude Close to 3 Billion Birr Grant Agreement

 Ethiopia and Sweden have signed 2.82 billion birr grant agreement today.

The framework agreement was concluded by Finance and Economic Cooperation State Minister, Admasu Nebebe, and Annika Nordin Jayawardena, Bilateral Development Cooperation Head at the Swedish Embassy in Ethiopia.

 

According to a press release of the ministry, the cooperation framework focuses on improving environment, enhancing resilience to climate change, improving opportunities for poor people to make use of their rights as well as promoting sustainable and democratic development of society.

The agreement is used as framework which leads the development cooperation of the two countries up to 2020.

According to the release, this commitment will be used for various projects to be implemented in Ethiopia.

During the signing ceremony, State Minister Admasu said Sweden has been supporting Ethiopia in education, health, water supply and rural development projects since the 1960s.

Bilateral Development Cooperation Head Jayawardena said on her part that the agreement will contribute to building the capacity of the federal government and regional states in natural resources development.

It will also contribute to efforts in curbing the effects of climate change and the implementation of the green economy plan in GTP-II.
Diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Sweden started in 1953.
