Ethiopia participates in 5th Nile Basin Development Forum

Ethiopia participated in the 5th Nile Basin Development Forum, which was held from 23-25, October 2017 in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Forum was held under the theme of “Investing in Nile cooperation for a water secure Future”.

“We have to appreciate the visionary leadership of the region that initiated and realized the establishment of the Nile Basin Initiative – NBI – in 1999,” said Mrs Hirut Zemene, State Minister of Foreign Affairs, speaking on the forum.

“We should be forward-looking to enhance our cooperation in the Nile Basin,” Hirut added.

Likewise, Dr. Seleshi Bekele, Minister of Water, Irrigation, and Electricity, said: “In the past nineteen years, Nile Basin Initiative, as a transitional institution with its subsidiary action programmes, has brought us a long way”.

“We have also negotiated the CFA which have continued to create a platform to interact with each other,” Dr. Seleshi added.

The minister stressed the prominence of maintaining the momentum of collaborative approach.
