Somali officials here to share from Ethiopia’s experience in federalism, devolution

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development Special Mission to Somalia (IGAD-SMS) has been working with the Somali government on peace building, security and capacity building in the country.

As part of this effort, IGAD-SMS is holding an experience sharing workshop on federalism and decentralization for Somali government officials.

The three-day workshop focuses on learning from Ethiopian and Kenyan experiences on federalism and devolution.

It aims to enhance the capacity and understanding of Somali government officials and experts on the matter.

In his opening remark, deputy Speaker of the Ethiopian House of Federation Mohammed Reshid shared Ethiopia’s experience on federalism to participants.

Speaking for his part, Somali Internal and Federal Reconciliation Minister Abdullahi Mohamoud said the visit will help identify the best practice in federalism that can suit Somalia.

IGAD on the occasion acknowledged the efforts of the Ethiopian and Kenyan governments in bringing peace in Somalia.

Senior Somali government officials, representatives of civil society organizations, experts, youths and women are in attendance of the workshop.
