Foreign Minister Workneh Holds Talks with US Congress Members ====== ===

Ethiopia and the United States are working together on various issues of peace and security, especially in combating terrorism and maintaining peace and security in Africa, Foreign Minister Workneh Gebeyehu said.

The Minister had talks with members of the United States Congress in Washington during a High-level Dialogue of African Foreign Affairs which was attended by 40 African Foreign Affairs Ministers.

Workneh briefed on the sidelines Senator James M. Inhofe, Congressman John Garamendi and other members of Congress on the current situation in Ethiopia and the efforts of IGAD to achieve peace in South Sudan and Somalia, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He informed them about Ethiopia’s impressive economic growth over the past years, calling on American investors to come and invest in his country.

The Ethiopian government is working to ensure sustainability of the current economic growth by maintaining peace in the country as well as strengthening its relations with the US government.

The United States has been providing support for the restoration of peace and security as well as consolidation of democracy in Ethiopia, the Minister said.

According to him, IGAD, under Ethiopian leadership, is making more efforts to ensure and build peace in South Sudan and Somalia.

On their part, members of the Congress said the US government will work with Ethiopia as the Horn of Africa country is “our strategic partner”.

They also praised Ethiopia’s key role in maintaining peace in South Sudan and supporting refugees from the country.
