Recalling that the AU and other African countries had called upon Trump to rectify his inappropriate words and apologize, Dlop said “this matter is serious enough that all African countries should react together to condemn him.”
The US is a partner of Africa, the ambassador said, adding that the President’s statement was however not respectful.
Namibia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Monica Nashandi said “speaking as an African, Trump’s speech is rubbish and should be condemned”.
Noting the progress Africa sovereign nations are making in their own way, she stressed that “Trump should fix things in America not in Africa”.
She expressed her hope that the Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government will come up with a strong statement against the inappropriate statement.
According to Nashandi, Trump’s inappropriate statement has no diplomatic impact whatsoever since the AU and US diplomatic ties go beyond the statement and the statement is not that of the American people.
African leaders should firmly condemn and work for strong collaboration of AU and USA, she said, and urged the international community, including the American people, to condemn that statement.
South Sudanese delegate Ater Ibrahim described President Trump’s statement as “unwise and inhuman.”
Lauding the adoption of the declaration, Ibrahim said “since his statement is clearly humiliating to humanity, especially the blacks, nobody accepts it and we request him to review his position.”
Egypt’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Abou Bakr Hefny Mahmoud said on his part the declaration adopted today was the right one against the inappropriate statement.
“I am sure that the US, who is the friend of Africa, is going to do something to rectify the inappropriate declaration that should not have taken place”, he added.
Expressing that all African countries have been offended by the statement, Mahmoud stated that “the African leaders need to send the message back.”
