House Elects New Speaker, Postpones Population Census

The House of Federation (HoF) has approved the postponement of the fourth national housing and population census due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The House decided the census, which was already postponed twice, to take place within two years after confirmation by relevant bodies that the pandemic will no longer cause damages.

The House also elected Aden Farah as its Speaker, replacing Keria Ibrahim, who resigned from her position last Monday after serving for the past two years.

Mr Etsegent Mengistu was elected Deputy Speaker of the Federation, replacing Mohammed Reshid.
