First Lady lays cornerstone for Cardiology, Oncology Center

First lady Roman Tesfaye on Thursday laid cornerstone for the National Center of Excellence in Cardiology and Oncology at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College.

In her remarks at the event, Roman said upon completion the center is expected to provide quality and affordable service.

St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College has been providing medical service and training to rank itself among the best medical centers in the country, she said.

The National Center of Excellence in Cardiology and Oncology would transform the efficiency and quality of the hospital to a higher level.

The role of the center in addressing non-communicable illnesses such as heart diseases and cancer is significant as it is equipped with modern medical facilities.

Minister of Health Dr Keseteberhan Admasu on his part said with 1,800 medical staff providing services for about 2,200 outpatients daily, the center will be unique in Ethiopia.

The Ministry of Health will step up its collaboration with the hospital to further enhance the health sector of the nation, the Minster added.

Acknowledging the kidney transplant and surgery as the best success story of St. Paul’s Hospital, Dr. Keseteberhan underlined that the new center would increase the prominence of the hospital.

The twin buildings of the National Center of Excellence for Cardiology and Oncology whose construction will start this month will cost nearly 50 million USD financed by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development.
