Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn has held a face-to-face discussion with youth drawn from across the country today.

The youth were represented from all nine regional states, two city administrations, street youth, youth with disabilities, Confederation of Ethiopian Trade Union, Youth Federation, opposition political parties.

2The youth, which represent 70 percent of the population of Ethiopia, are expected to make contributions equally to the demand of the country by respecting and protecting the Constitution, the Premier told the participants.

“Young Ethiopians are key players towards nation building, just same as the previous youth did to lay the foundation for Ethiopia’s current democratic system,” he added.

The participation of youth had been fundamental to topple the dictatorial Derg regime, he said, adding the contribution of the current generation is immense towards protecting the existing constitutional order, he said.

6Ethiopian youth need to boost their benefits and participations in the political and socio-economic sectors as well as in the efforts being made to eradicate poverty, the Premier indicated.

At the closing event of the 4th Nat’l Youth Conference held at the Millennium Hall in Addis Ababa, the Premier responded for various questions forwarded by the youth.

The Premier said favorable situations have been created for the youth to improve their livelihoods by engaging in various line of businesses, including in modern agriculture, tourism and environmental conservation.

3Yesterday, the youth deliberated on federalism and rule of law. More than 3,000 youth, including high level government officials, took part at the two-day conference.
