The summit was held under the Chairmanship of Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, and attended by Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta,Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Djibouti, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf and the Executive Secretary of IGAD, Amb (Eng) Mahboub Maalim.
It was also attended by representatives of the United Nations (UN), African Union Commission (AUC), the League of Arab States and the European Union (EU).
After holding extensive discussions on the developments in Somalia, the summit renewed its commitment to support and bring stability in that country.
The summit welcomed the Federal Government of Somalia’s (FGS) commitment to a credible, transparent and inclusive electoral mechanism towards a peaceful and democratic transition.
It also encouraged all Somalis to participate in the 2016 electoral process.
Moreover, member countries called on the international community to support the FGS development plans and programs.
