251116-04Five Day KISIWA Festival 2016 at the Little Theatre Club

Coastweek– The KISIWA (island, in Kiswahili) Festival is one of East Africa’s first comprehensive theatre festivals of national and international artists and is expected to have at least 10,000 participants during its 5 days of events on the island of Mombasa.

The Island of Mombasa is one of the earliest capitals and most dynamic cities in Africa, in terms of art and historical content.
The KISIWA Festival is an initiative of the Little Theatre Club and serves as an avenue to expose, and entertain, a diverse audience of theatre enthusiasts and musical artists, to the rich heritage of the Kenya Coast.
The club is the oldest theatre, founded in 1947, and the only one of its kind in the Coast region.
The LTC is a National Heritage site, a local community center of arts and a hub for theatre enthusiasts in the region.

The Festival supports the arts, culture, heritage and tourism in a bold and innovative way.
MISSION
The KISIWA Festival seeks to celebrate our rich theatrical, musical and cultural talents, to promote tourism and to empower our artists and youth.
The festival will provide artists with an opportunity to unify the East African community through art and culture, and learn from each other via several workshops that will be taking place before, during and after the festival.
OBJECTIVE
The main objective of the KISIWA Festival is to firmly position the Kenya Coast as Africa’s capital for the arts.

The KISIWA Festival promotes Art Tourism, as a partnership between culture and the tourism industry, to creatively amplify what is unique about the Kenya Coast.

Art Tourism is a powerful force in the life of our towns and city, making them more attractive to visitors and creating a better quality of life for our citizens.
‘Culture and the arts are a key element in the positive development of a tourist destination.’
WHAT HAPPENS AT THE EVENT
KISIWA Festival showcases some of the best theatrical, film and cultural groups in our region.
It will feature four days of vibrant performances and interactive workshops in dance, spoken word, art, craft, theatre and children’s activities.
Highlighted at the events will be the mission to empower the youth and address the radicalization of youth by extremists.
