Ethiopia desirous to further trade, investment ties with U.S.

Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn has expressed Ethiopia`s desire to further strengthen its relation with the new administration of the United States, particularly in trade and investment.

The Premier made the remark while discussing with the visiting U.S. delegation led by Senator James Inhofe on Wednesday.

Noting that Ethiopia and the U.S. have been enjoying a longstanding relation, the Premier stressed the need to further boost the ties.

 

In this regard, he urged the U.S. to enhance trade and investment cooperation with Ethiopia in general and along the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) in particular.

Hailemariam also highlighted the need for strong support from the U.S. to build Ethiopia’s resilience to the impacts of climate change such as the current drought in parts of the country.

Head of the visiting U.S. delegation, Senator James Inhofe, told reporters after the discussion that the U.S. will continue to cooperate with Ethiopia.

Saying Ethiopia is one of the strategic allies of the U.S. in the region in peace and security, he confirmed that the relationship will be strengthened further under the Trump Administration.

The new Administration of Donald Trump will work cooperatively with Ethiopia in its own strategies and ways, he affirmed.

The U.S. will also continue its support to Ethiopia’s efforts of stabilizing the horn of Africa in general and Somalia and south Sudan in particular, he added.
