The day is dedicated to commemorate Ethiopian patriots who died during the war against the then Italian forces and the end of the five-year occupation in 1941.
Here in the capital, it was celebrated at Meyazia 27 Square, commonly known as Arat Kilo.
Patriots, residents of Addis Ababa and government officials including, President Mulatu Teshome and mayor of Addis Ababa city, Diriba Kuma attended the celebartion.
President Mulatu on the occasion called on the young generation to safeguard and pass on their ancestral history for the next generation.
Mayor of Addis Ababa City, Diriba Kuma, for his part urged the current generation to do their own history.
