Nation Celebrates Patriots’ Victory Day

Nation Celebrates Patriots’ Victory Day =============

Ethiopia celebrates the 76th anniversary of patriot’s victory day, to commemorate the end of the five-year Italian occupation.

Ethiopia was the only African country to retain its sovereignty, until its independence was interrupted by the Second Italo-Ethiopian war that started in October 1935. The war resulted in the military occupation of the country.

Italian troops entered Addis Ababa in May 1936, marking the beginning of the five-year occupation of Ethiopia. On this day in 1941 the occupation had ended.

The 76th Anniversary Day marked on Friday in Addis Ababa at the national level in the presence of President Mulatu Teshome, Mayor of Addis Ababa City, Dirriba Kuma and President of Ethiopian Patriots Association.

On the occasion of Patriots’ Victory Day, wreath-laying ceremonies are held at war memorials and monuments attended by government officials, military leaders and diplomats as well as representatives of patriot associations and city residents.
