Ethiopia and Switzerland need to work more in further enhancing their trade and investment relations, President Mulatu Teshome said.
While conferring with the outgoing Switzerland Ambassador to Ethiopia, Andrea Semadeni, the President noted that the trade and investment cooperation between the two countries is low despite their long relationship.
The annul trade exchange between Switzerland and Ethiopia is close to 160 million US dollars, which the countries have agreed to boost.
Mentioning the experience of Switzerland in advanced technologies and federalism, Mulatu called on Switzerland to share these knowledge and experiences with Ethiopia.
The President finally appreciated the ambassador’s contribution to improve the relations between the nations during his tenure in Ethiopia.
The outgoing Ambassador Andrea Semadeni said the relation between Switzerland and Ethiopia is getting deeper; but more needs to be done to enhance trade and investment ties.
The bilateral cooperation between Switzerland and Ethiopia primarily focuses on education, peace promotion, migration, humanitarian aid, and cultural exchange.
Through its regional Strategy for the Horn of Africa Switzerland has been providing support for humanitarian issues, promotion of peace and development, and tackling migration in Africa since 2013.
