King Letsie III Lauds Ethiopia’s Food Security Program

 

Ethiopia’s successful achievement in food security should be taken as an example by other African countries, King Letsie III of Lesotho said.

 King Letsie, who is also FAO’s special ambassador for nutrition, made the remark following his visit to food security programs in Sidama Zone of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples state on Wednesday.

 The King, who visited farmlands and diet of households in Shamatanto Woreda of the Sidama Zone, said other African countries should learn from this program.

 

King Letsie III said that efforts underway by the government and the people of Ethiopia in ensuring food security is encouraging and noted that the programs being implemented to ensure nutritious feeding is on the right track.

He also appreciated for the collaborative work between Food and Agriculture Organization and the government of Ethiopia for introducing a new agricultural scheme that enabled households develop the culture of nutritious feeding.

He indicated that the program will have a remarkable impact on the socio-economic development of the country by creating healthy citizens.

State Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Kaba Urgessa on his part said that Ethiopia is ensuring its food security through the integrated programs that are being implemented in the country.

In addition to ensuring food security, the country is also working to make an achievement in meeting the nutrition demands of the public during the second five-year Growth and Transformation Plan.

Aimed at producing healthy and productive citizens by fulfilling their nutrition demand, the Horn African nation is implementing the national nutrition strategy.
