In an unprecedented turn of events, Abadulla Gemeda, the Speaker of the House of the Peoples’ Representatives, resigned from his post.
The Reporter confirmed that his letter of resignation was submitted to the EPRDF Executive Committee due to personal reason.
Sources close to the matter confirmed to The Reporter that his resignation was submitted to the executive committee two weeks ago and the committee accepted his resignation.
According to the Parliament’s working and ethical procedures, the resignation will be submitted to the parliament and a candidate that the EPRDF will present for approval will assume the post.
Abadulla who has been serving as the speaker of the House for two terms has been on the job until yesterday and he will also be chairing the Monday October 7, 2017 opening of the joint session of the Parliament and the House of the Federation.
