Addisababa IGAD Council of Ministers holds a consultative meeting

IGAD Council of Ministers made a consultative meeting to review the progress of the Revitalization Process of South Sudan peace process with Ministers and representative Ambassadors of member countries on Tuesday on the margins of AU-EU Summit 2017.

The meeting discussed two important issues and sought to endorse the Consultation report and the Date and Venue of the Consultation Forum which was proposed to be made after the 59th Extra-Ordinary Session of the IGAD Council of Ministers.

Reiterating the fact that without the participation of the Foreign Ministers of IGAD member countries the consultations could not have been possible, Dr. Workneh said, “I must thank you all, for supporting our collective undertakings in this regard, especially for the good spirit exhibited during the pre-forum consultations with the parties”.

He added, “We should continue with the same spirit of cooperation, speak with one voice and keep everyone updated to succeed”.

Dr. Workneh in his remarks also commended EU Ambassadors of IGAD countries for their fruitful engagement to create another multilateral platform, where cooperation in peace and security and European Development Fund (EDF) could be beneficial.

On the occasion, Special Envoy of IGAD to South Sudan Ambassador Dr. Ismail Wais briefed the gathering on the consultation results.

The meeting underscored the need for speeding up the revitalization process, so as to lift out millions who are suffering because of the crisis in South Sudan.

A meeting of IGAD plus TCC countries is being held on Wednesday, it was learned.
